According to reports by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), between 11,000 and 13,000 people die each year in motor vehicle accidents involving alcohol.

If you are visiting this page because you or a loved one was injured due to the negligence of a drunk driver, our Houston-based attorney Scott Callahan wants to extend personal condolences to you for the pain and suffering you have experienced. We have compiled this article as a helpful resource for you to find information regarding the statistics of drunk driving accidents in the United States and how they are legally resolved within our court system.

The following is a list of specific statistics our researchers have developed regarding drunk-driving in the United States:

  1. According to reports by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), between 11,000 and 13,000 people die each year in motor vehicle accidents involving alcohol.
  2. Accidents related to drunk driving take place every 45 minutes in the United States.
  3. In the year 2006, 1 out of every 139 drivers was arrested for drunk driving. Undoubtedly, many more committed this crime and endangering those around them without suffering repercussions at all.

There are two basic case types that our Texas Drunk Driving Injury Attorney can bring to court for your case: Civil and Criminal. The criminal actions will be brought by the Attorney General against the felon for crimes which they commit. Potential punishment includes jail time and criminal charges. Civil actions are those which are brought by the injured or offended parties involved in the drunk driving accident. These cases involve compensation for medical bills, property damage, lost wages, and pain and suffering. A case for wrongful death also exists if a fatality occurred in the drunk driving accident.

If you or a loved one is in a position where you choose to seek damages for financial, emotional and physical loss you experienced due to the negligence of a drunk driver, please contact the Law Office of Scott Callahan in Houston, Texas. Houston's freeway system includes 575.5 miles (926.2 km) of freeways and expressways in the 10-county metro area. The State of Texas plans to spend $5.06 billion on Houston area highways between 2002 and 2007. Houston freeways are heavily traveled and often under construction to meet the demands of continuing growth.

The Greater Houston area has a hub-and-spoke freeway structure with multiple loops. The innermost is Interstate 610, forming approximately a 10-mile (20 km) diameter loop around downtown. The roughly square "Loop 610" is quartered into "North Loop," "South Loop," "West Loop," and "East Loop." The roads of Beltway 8 and their freeway core, the Sam Houston Tollway, are the next loop, at a diameter of roughly 25 miles (40 km). A proposed highway project, State Highway 99 (The Grand Parkway), would form a third loop outside of Houston. Currently, the completed portion of State Highway 99 runs from just north of Interstate 10, west of Houston, to U.S. Highway 59 in Sugar Land, southwest of Houston, and was completed in 1994. The next portion to be constructed is from the current terminus at U.S. Highway 59 to State Highway 288 in Brazoria County. Freeways also include the Westpark Tollway, which runs from U.S. Hwy 59 to Texas Hwy 99 and the Fort Bend Parkway, which runs from U.S. Hwy 90-A to Texas Hwy 6 in Missouri City (Reference: Wikipedia)
